Passacaglia is a very sound and prolific old ewe. She has produced several
stock tups including Hazelwood 1939/X018 Elite + at £1,900 to Elfyn Owen
Cernyw, and Hazelwood 1939/001 at £1,100 to Robert Neill of Rossiebank. She
is a great grand-daughter of Hazelwood Carmen and that “once seen never
forgotten” look has followed this line down the generations – I can pick them
out at the shows.
Passacaglia won the Reserve Interbreed Pair at the Royal Show 2002 (the photo
has been frequently used on the BFL stand), she was in the Champion group
(ewes by Neptune) at the 2003 Progeny Show, and won several local show
championships She had four tup lambs this year.

Rosemary was shown for the first time as a five crop ewe and completed the
season unbeaten, having been Champion & Reserve Interbreed Pair
(partnering my Shrewbridge tup) at the Royal, and Champion at the Great
Yorkshire, the BFL Progeny Show singles, and all my usual local shows. She
has bred consistently well, producing Hazelwood Verity (see below), Hazelwood
1939/W010 male Champion at the Royal and lots more in 2004 & 2005,
Hazelwood 1939/X011 Penrith Sale Champion (see X flock book for photo), and a
needle sharp ewe lamb by Hazelwood Xact E+ for this sale A034 (see below).
Her twin, a tup, will be sold as a shearling along with the rest of this
year’s tup lambs.

Rene is a very sound breeding ewe. She is the dam of Hazelwood 1939/X007
Elite+, belonging to the Drummonds of Cassington, shearling ram Hazelwood
Elite Z006 for this sale. Ewes at £700 and £400 at my flock reductions. She
has a shearling ewe Z037, and two ewe lambs A033 & A042 for this sale
(see below).

Robinia is another great old ewe. She was Champion at the Royal and elsewhere
(I know this is getting boring) in 2005, but breeding is her forte. She was
the dam of the Hexham female Champion 2005, sold to Robin Waite for £1,400.
Five daughters for the sale (see below). She had an outstanding tup lamb this
year, too good to live! Necked in the creep feeder. His two sisters A030 and
A031 are going on well for the sale. Also X031 Xanthosoma, Z034 and Z035.

Dam 1949/J044 Hazelwood Jezebel (Progeny Show Champion Group 1998 and dam of
1939/P066 Hazelwood Persephone, sold to Middle Dukesfield for £500. She was
the dam of Alec Bisset’s Hexham Champion and his twin, the top price ram lamb
in 2005.
Sire of Dam 468/E001 Walton Elite+ (he produced lots of major champions and
high prices up £4,200 for 1939/J001 Hazelwood Elite to Bill & George
Wearmouth, Rosehill.
Rebecca is another great breeder, mostly females, some well sold and the rest
for this Sale T041 Tamara and Z036 and a ewe lamb A037. Also shearling rams
Z005 and Z008 (see below).

Tamarix has never been shown but she is an exceptional breeder. Hazelwood Wythea
(see below) was her first lamb. Next year a ewe lamb sold at £550 and her tup
lamb was first at the Royal and the GYS – it drowned in the dip tub two days
before the sale.
She has Wythea a shearling Z030 and ewe lamb A035 for this sale (see below).

the front of the photo). I had been looking forward to showing her as a ewe.

tup lamb this year. I am keeping all the tup lambs for shearlings. Xapuri
will be in her prime to show next year.

Xylophone is the only daughter I currently have off Passacaglia, but she has
had problems. In 2007 she had an enormous 8kg. ewe lamb, dead by the time I
got it out. She readily adopted another lamb but had bad mastitis after
weaning and lost a quarter. This year she had a single tup to sell next year.
Hazelwood X018 Elite+ is Xylophone’s full brother.
I may withdraw this ewe for the cast if there is no interest in her, so
please contact me if you are interested in this blood line.

Royal in 2003 and knocked over the judge in the next ring), was a consistent
winner as a ewe lamb, and Champion Progeny Show Group 2003 (at Welshpool),
penned between Passacaglia and Stella to keep her quiet. She was an
outstanding breeder, a shearling ewe at £900 in 2005.
Yolanda was first prize shearling ewe at the GYS 2007. Amid all the chaos of
last year’s tupping time she only had one chance with a fertile tup and
scanned empty. I am confident all will be well this year, but I will give you
your money back if she proves to be empty.

The
ewe lambs and shearling ewes have not been genotype tested. Where both
parents are ARR/ARR they must be ARR/ARR. The others have a 50% chance of
being ARR/ARR or ARR/AHQ. I am pleased to have retained this healthy genetic
variation in some of my flock. The ewe lambs by Xact were all born in March,
but the lambs by Cernyw were mostly born in April.

Shearling Rams
Four
of these rams have been classified and they all achieved “Elite” status.
My lambs did not thrive well last summer, but they have caught up very well
and make a super pen of shearlings, with several breeder’s sheep amongst
them.
